Le fairy doors, note all’estero come Fairy Doors, are above all decorations for the children's room. But they are also much more.
In fact, the fairy doors are used as an educational aid and as a playful support for children going through difficult times or a delicate moment of childhood. Let's think about how problematic a move or a family quarrel can be for children.
Fairy Doors are usually placed on or fixed to the walls of the children's room or placed on a shelf or near the bed. The Fairy Doors for educational use were designed by Sally Copus but we can try to make them ourselves at home to surprise the children.
Some parents, for example, help children to write a message dedicated to fairies or elves to allow them to let off steam in a difficult time. Other times the fairy doors are an invitation to develop imagination and creativity.
Behind the doors of the fairies, when we open them, there is nothing visible to our eyes, because their world is born thanks to our imagination.
Here how to build the Fairy Doors.
Materials
- Plywood or a dollhouse door
- Buttons or other decorations to create the handle
- Colors for wood
- Paper, pen and string for making cards and other decorations
- A saucer, dry leaves, chestnuts and glitter
Method
The process for creating a Fairy Door is very simple. If you go looking for one door for dollhouses in DIY stores or on the internet much of the work will be ready. You can then color and decorate the door to your liking.
Otherwise you can cut out a door from a sheet of plywood and get a rectangular shape. For the handles you can use buttons or beads. With cardboard you can create welcome cards to be attached to the door handle with a string.
With the pen you can decorate the door with small drawings or write messages for your children. If your fairy door is far from the ground, you could place a ladder to create a very nice decoration, as you can see in these photos.

There are many games that you can invent starting from your fairy door. For example, near a Fairy Doors you can place a saucer on which to lay dry leaves, acorns or chestnuts that you have collected in a park or in the woods.

The next morning this gift for the fairies or for the elves will no longer be present in the saucer because you will have replaced it with some "Gold dust" (just use the common glitter for decorations).
