    Polyphenols are precious substances for maintaining the health of our organism and for the prevention of tumors. The study in question was conducted by researchers from theUniversity of Siena, at Department of Life Sciences. The anticancer effects of extra virgin olive oil refer above all to the prevention of colon cancer.

    Second as stated by researchers, extra virgin olive oil is one of the main sources of polyphenols, natural substances with antioxidant properties and with potential benefits for human health. Not all oils contain polyphenols in the same amount. A common extra virgin olive oil it contains in fact from 100 to 250 mg of polyphenols.

    THETuscan extra virgin olive oil IGP, according to the analyzes conducted by the experts, it contains at least some 450 mg. The researchers identified a specific polyphenol, which bears the name of ECD (dihydroxyphenil ethanol), which presents property not only antioxidants, as already known for polyphenols, but also antimicrobials e inflammatory.

    The DPE is capable of inhibit the progression of colon cancer and to interfere with inflammatory processes and withangiogenesis, that is, the formation of the blood vessels with which tumors feed. How much extra virgin olive oil to take every day to prevent colon cancer and to fight it? Experts indicate a dose of 40 grams per day, corresponding to 3 or 4 tbsp.



    Researchers aim to obtain an extract from extra virgin olive oil that is effective in enhancing drug therapies aimed at stopping the advance of colon cancer. Pending further developments in this regard, the green light is therefore given to quality extra virgin olive oil to be used raw as a condiment, due to its richness in antioxidants and its anticancer properties.
