Evening primrose oil, also known as evening primrose oil, is obtained from the plant botanically known as Oenothera biennis and in particular from its seeds. It is a product appreciated above all by those who want to improve skin elasticity and hydration even if normal moisturizers have not been able to solve the problem of dryness.

Properties of Evening Primrose Oil

Evening primrose seed oil is particularly beneficial when taken internally as well. As it is rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), this natural product helps the proper functioning of both venous and arterial circulation and consequently of the heart. Given its fluidifying action, among other things, it helps to reduce the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) in the blood and triglycerides and prevents atherosclerosis.

It is also useful to improve intestinal functions softening the mucosa and thus allowing easier evacuations, eliminating the problem of constipation. The oil obtained from evening primrose seeds also reduces inflammation, is used for example in case of arthritis and is a special ally of women: not only does it relieve premenstrual and menopausal symptoms but it can also help those who, looking for a child, want to increase their fertility. This natural product is able to improve the quality of the cervical mucus thus making pifertilization is easier, it also regulates the cycle and consequently ovulation.

For the skin then evening primrose oil is a real panacea, not surprisingly it is often recommended in case of: erythema, eczema, dermatitis, urticaria, psoriasis, acne, sunburn or other dermatological problems. Evening primrose oil is commercially available in different forms depending on the uses to be made of it. For the skin it is useful to choose the real oil, it is always better to prefer a product of biological origin, cold extracted and without the use of solvents in this way it can keep all its properties intact.

An oil with these characteristics can also be used internally (1 or 2 tablespoons a day) but for greater practicality it is often recommended to take evening primrose oil pearls.

It is advisable to use evening primrose oil on damp skin to improve its absorption, therefore perfect for massaging all over the body or in areas affected by some dermatological problem immediately after a shower or bath.

Contraindications of evening primrose oil

Evening primrose oil generally has no contraindications as it is well tolerated by everyone. The only slight effects that can appear in case of prolonged internal use are headache, nausea or diarrhea while for external use allergies are possible (although rare). To be avoided only in case of epilepsy and schizophrenia.
