Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Essential oils are a valuable natural remedy but the fact that they are extracted from plants, flowers, etc. it does not mean that they are free from possible risks, particularly if taken orally. To warn of the possibility of essential oil poisoning is the French medical journal Prescteggio.

Now we find them to buy easily in organic shops, on the internet, in herbalists, parapharmacies and sometimes even in supermarkets. Let's talk about the essential oils that are increasingly used to perfume homes, treat minor ailments and much more.

These remedies however, if used incorrectly, they can cause serious damage. In fact, these are very concentrated products rich in active ingredients that should always be used in the correct doses and with due attention.

Of course, there are greater risks if we decide to ingest them. The use of essential oils orally should always be agreed with an expert, considering, among other things, that ingestion is not recommended for some types.

As the medical journal Prescendere, poisoning occurs annually in people who have ingested essential oils that shouldn't be used orally or have used excessive doses.

Most of the recorded accidents in France they are accidental and concern children from 1 to 4 years (60%). But adults can also be victims of poisoning.

In case of suspected poisoning, it is important contact a poison control center immediately or an emergency service, specifying the ingested oil and quantity, but also the person's age and symptoms.

Common symptoms of essential oil poisoning include:

    • digestive disorders (nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea)
    • neuropsychic disorders (drowsiness, hallucinations, convulsions, etc.).

Some oils can also lead to acute liver damage and acute kidney failure. The severity of symptoms is usually related to the amount consumed and the type of oil.

    Prescribe remember that:

Serious, even fatal, side effects have been reported: convulsions with the essential oils of mugwort, wormwood, hyssop, rosemary, sage, tansy, thuja, cajeput, eucalyptus and niaouli; coma with peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils; hepatotoxicity with the essential oils of birch, buchu, calament, mint, cloves and thyme; Acute kidney failure with essential oils of mint, lamb's quarters, wintergreen, falls and wormwood.

Therefore, we never take the safety of essential oils for granted and let's remember always keep bottles away from children, never remove labels or transfer oils to another container.
