    Can Abusing Energy Drinks Harm Your Health? The situation is clarified by the research carried out by experts from the University of Bonn in Germany.     I results achieved were presented at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, noting that energy drinks have a significant effect on increasing heart contractions. Experts' concerns about the heart consequences of consuming energy drinks mainly concern adolescents and young adults. Experts have in fact found a strong increase in emergency room visits following the consumption of energy drinks by patients of aged between 18 and 39 years.

    The factor of greatest concern is the high caffeine content of energy drinks, which in some cases can be higher than what is present in a cup of espresso. The study in question was conducted on a group of healthy volunteers, men and women, with an average age of 27,5 years.

    The volunteers underwent cardiac magnetic resonance imaging after consuming an energy drink containing caffeine (32 mg per 100 ml) and taurine (400 mg per 100 ml). The increase in the speed of contraction of the ventricles, with particular reference to the left ventricle, was evident and significant. According to experts, further studies will be needed to understand the duration of the effects of energy drinks on the heart and their overall impact on the body. The greatest concern is about the possible emergence of arrhythmia.



    Are energy drinks really necessary to recharge us? Given the side effects, it is better to turn to natural alternatives.
