New increases are coming in the electricity and gas bills due to the increase in the prices of raw materials which, for the second quarter of 2021, will lead to an increase in energy costs for the typical family in protection. This was announced by Arera, the Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment, which has published the updated tariffs. From XNUMX April the growth will be of 3,8% for electricity and 3,9 per il gas.

In terms of impact on the consumer, for electricity, the expenditure for the typical household in the rolling year (between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2021) will be around 517 euros, with a variation of -0,7 % compared to the equivalent 12 months of the previous year. There will therefore be an annual saving of around 4 euros. In the same period, the typical household's expenditure for the gas bill will be around 966 euros, with a variation of -5,2% compared to the equivalent 12 months of the previous year, with a saving of around 52 euros. Overall, therefore, the typical family benefits from savings of around 56 euros on an annual basis.

The increases arriving in the bill were contested by theNational Consumers Union (Unc), given that according to the association they would lead to a greater overall cost of 60 euros for each typical family.

“A cold shower for consumers! Bad news! An increase can only throw the budgets of families already in difficulty due to the Covid emergency, ”said Marco Vignola, head of the UNC energy sector, commenting on what was established by Arera. “This is why we proposed at the beginning of the pandemic to reduce VAT on gas to 10% on entire consumption and not just on the first 480 cubic meters per year as it currently is. We are now also asking the Draghi government ”.

Reductions for small businesses

In addition, the Arera approved the implementation resolution of the “Sostegni” decree-law which will reduce bills for small businesses, ie commercial establishments such as bars, restaurants, workshops and artisan shops, by 600 million euros. About 3,7 million individuals will benefit from the provision.

"In particular, in a similar way to what happened last spring, the discount is worth around 70 euros per month for a customer with a contract with a power of 15 kW and will be particularly incisive on the total cost of the bill for commercial businesses still forced to closing, reducing it up to 70%. " - we read on the Arera website - For the shops that can remain open, the savings will be on average between 20% and 30% of the total cost of the bill. These reductions do not impact on the charges placed on other consumers, as they are financed by specific allocations from the State Budget. "
