You never think about it, but how much does the lighting of cemeteries affect municipal coffers and the environment? An argument brought to the fore today by the Municipality of Aosta which in recent days approved the adhesion to the "VotivA +" project which provides for the replacement of 2.000 of the approximately 3.700 votive candles installed in the cemeteries of Aosta, Excenex and Signayes with electronic LED lamps for votive lighting.

You never think about it, but how much does thelighting of cemeteries on municipal coffers and the environment? A topic brought to the fore today by Municipality of Aosta which in recent days approved the adhesion to the "VotivA +" project which provides for the replacement of "2.000 of the approximately 3.700 votive candles installed in the cemeteries of Aosta, Excenex and Signayes with electronic led lamps for votive lighting ".
Sponsored by Ministry of the Environment and the Protection of the Territory and the Sea and by Min the Ministry of Economic Development and created by the company "Gesco srl" in partnership with the European campaign See ("Sustainable Energy Europe", Sustainable Energy for Europe") launched by the European Commission, the project, thanks to the installation of LED lamps, will result in a reduction of energy consumption of approximately 77 thousand Kw per year, that is a saving for the municipal coffers estimated at 5.000 euro per year, not to mention what will be achieved thanks to the longer life of the lamps that use the led technology.
Savings that, if the project were to bear the hoped-for results, could also be felt concretely in the pockets of citizens: "In addition to providing an answer in terms of energy saving - comments the deputy mayor with responsibility for cemetery services, Alberto Follien - the intervention, once extended to all candles in operation in the cemeteries of Aosta and if the results of the first experimentation were positive, it could allow us in the future to revise the annual amount of the tax paid for the votive lamp downwards».
Not bad, right?
