Plastic bottles represent one of the main causes of pollution worldwide, but a recycling plant in Bohrok, Indonesia, has managed to transform them into a real resource: eco-bricks for building homes.

In a country where time and energy are far more available goods than money, the introduction of this new construction method is one way to create jobs. Not only that, this recycling activity opens up the possibility for economically disadvantaged people to build sustainable and resistant houses.
Homes built with this type of eco-brick also offer other advantages: they are well insulated, reduce CO2 emissions and represent an economical alternative to houses made with concrete or other types of brick.
Indonesia, like many developing countries, has an obvious problem with plastics: its rivers and canals are clogged with large clusters of bottles, bags and other packaging. The Indonesian government aims to stop the increase in plastic waste, promising to reduce plastic waste by 30 percent by 2025.
