Research published in the Journal of Nutrition looked at 105 overweight adults who were divided into two groups: one group ate a diet for 12 weeks that included a fresh avocado, the other received a diet with similar calories but no. avocado. It is important to remember that in the abdomen there are two types of fat: the fat that accumulates just below the skin, called subcutaneous or peripheral fat, and the fat that accumulates deeper in the abdomen, known as visceral fat, which surrounds the internal organs. Individuals who have high percentages of visceral fat tend to have an increased risk of developing diabetes. Hence, a diet that includes an avocado every day positively changed the way people store body fat, but the benefits were mostly seen in women.
