How many cups of coffee do you drink a day? Well, according to a study published in the American Journal of Medicine three would be enough to trigger the migraine.

The researchers analyzed 98 participants, of which 86 women and 12 men, with an average age of 35 years, subject to episodic migraine problems, that is, which occurs at least twice a month but no more than 15, because in the latter case instead it is chronic migraine. They were observed and reported a total of 825 migraines, approximately 8 migraines each over the 6-week analysis period.

Participants were required to complete a survey twice a day for six weeks, recording their caffeine intake and headache on that day. By analyzing the data, the scholars proved that drinking excessive amounts of caffeinated beverages is a trigger for migraines, while taking into account other factors involved in the development of the problem, such as alcohol consumption, sleep deprivation or stress.

In fact, in people with episodic migraines, consuming at least three caffeinated drinks a day has been shown to be related to a greater likelihood of experiencing a migraine on that day or the next. And this is despite the fact that coffee is often considered a pain reliever.

However it was also found that drinking 1 or 2 cups a day has no negative repercussions and it is therefore not recommended for those with headache problems. In short, just don't overdo it!
