Drinking a glass of beer every day could make you live to be 90. The Dutch study

One study found that drinking beer on a daily basis can greatly increase your chances of reaching your 90s. With due limits.

Drink some beer every day to ward off old age! If the elixir of life exists, it could be hidden in hops and malt. In fact, a study found that drinking beer every day (obviously in moderate doses) can greatly increase the chances of reaching 90 years. With due limits.

Research conducted at Maastricht University in the Netherlands and which is about to be published in the new issue of Age Agening has, in fact, highlighted that men who drink half a pint of beer every day are 81% likely to more to enter the tenth decade of life than those who are teetotalers.

The same would be true for women: gentle maidens who drink a nice glass of beer increase their chances of celebrating nine decades of life by a third.

To reach these conclusions, the scholars monitored the consumption habits of half a million consumers over the course of twenty years, discovering that even whiskey, always to a limited extent, would have the same beneficial effects as beer.

    A systematic review

Scientists tracked the drinking habits of 5.500 men and women born between 1916 and 1917 over the course of two decades, and found that drinking alcohol in moderation can be very good for the heart.

The results showed that 34% of women and 16% of men survived to the age of 90, with an amount of alcohol roughly equivalent to half a pint of beer. Drinking more than 15g of alcohol was found to have a detrimental effect, as larger daily intakes led to premature deaths.

“Our analyzes show significantly positive associations between alcohol and longevity in men and women. However - Professor Piet van den Brandt told The Mirror. The results should not be used as a motivation to start drinking ”.

Their theory is that drinking in moderation is actually good for the heart, but drinking too much would obviously be harmful. That is, gorging yourself on beer is not the right way if you want to enjoy a long and healthy life. Finally, if you're not a drinker, that doesn't mean you're on the wrong track: "the results shouldn't be used as a motivation to start drinking," the researchers continue.

And of course we fully support it. In any case, from the prevention of osteoporosis to that of diabetes, up to the benefits for the kidneys and digestion, on the qualities and advantages of drinking a sip of beer there is already a large literature. Here you will find, for example, 10 health benefits that you would not have expected.
