There was a time, not many months ago, when brewer's yeast was as precious as gold and almost impossible to find on supermarket shelves: during the difficult months of the lockdown due to the health emergency from Covid-19, in fact, a real race has begun to purchase this product, considered a kind of primary necessity (the phenomenon, subsequently, was also studied by this study).

Fortunately, this is no longer the case: yeast is very easily found in all supermarkets and its price is once again accessible. This does not mean, however, that this product must be wasted and lightly thrown away: brewer's yeast is a fresh product and has a short shelf life, so it can happen that you forget it in the refrigerator and not notice that it is about to expire.

Obviously, we do not recommend using it in preparing foods after the expiration date, as it could hurt, but here are some tips for reusing the yeast out of the kitchen, so that you don't have to throw it away.

    • Plant fertilizer. The nutritional elements contained in the yeast stick can help us to make an effective fertilizer at home, which will favor the growth of the whole plant and the development of any flowers. To prepare it, we dissolve the dough in a liter of hot water, let the mixture cool and then use it to water our plants.
    • Absorb odors. It is also possible to "recycle" a stick of brewer's yeast that has now expired to neutralize bad smells in the toilet drain: even in this case, just dissolve the stick of yeast in a liter of boiling water that we will pour still hot in the toilet - in this case way the bad smells will disappear.
    • Face mask. Brewer's yeast is an extremely nourishing product not only for plants, but also for our skin: it is in fact very rich in B vitamins but also in mineral salts such as iron, phosphorus and magnesium, which help to counteract skin aging. and to prevent the appearance of wrinkles. We can then recover it to prepare a nourishing mask for our face: we just crumble the yeast stick in a glass and add hot water a little at a time, to create a not too liquid mixture that we will then spread on the face. After about twenty minutes, when the mask has dried on the skin, we can wash it off with hot water and complete the beauty treatment by applying a face cream: the skin will appear much more elastic, nourished and hydrated.
    • Hair mask. Even our hair can benefit from a treatment based on brewer's yeast, with which we can prepare an effective pack to apply on the hair. In this case, we dissolve our yeast in a little hot water and add a fatty substance - such as olive oil (one tablespoon) or plain yogurt (two tablespoons). We apply the mixture obtained on dry hair and leave it on for half an hour (we can cover the hair with a shower cap), then proceed with the normal shampoo
