Don't throw away the leftover coffee, it can turn into works of art with coffee painting

Leftover coffee can turn into works of art thanks to coffee painting. Don't throw it away but use it creatively.

Coffee not only helps fertilize plants and prepare effective body scrubs, it can even turn into works of art. Would you have ever imagined it? This is the "coffee painting“, Painting with coffee, also known as“ Arfé ”, gives art and coffee. Term coined by the Puerto Rican artist Francisco Rivera Rosa who creates wonderful paintings with coffee.

Have you ever tried? If you haven't, seize the moment and "accidentally" pour the remaining coffee in the cup onto a sheet of paper. Grab a brush and start creating.

How to paint with leftover coffee

Coffee painting has become, to the sound of poured coffee, a very popular art form.

The technique is in some ways reminiscent of watercolor, except that the consistency of the coffee is decidedly more demanding. Different shades of color can be obtained by adding coffee to the water. But there are also those who use it pure, those who prefer the instant, those who instead of preparing it with Moka boil it in a saucepan to obtain even darker tones.

All that is needed besides the "aromatic color" is some synthetic brush, a pencil, an eraser and some watercolor paper, which absorbs it better and resists water. As for coffee, you can use the leftover coffee by pouring a small amount into various glasses containing more or less water. Or use the soluble one, as many artists do.

Proceed like this:

  • Prepare several shades and make a pencil sketch of the subject you want to paint
  • Dip the brush in the color and start painting starting from the light shades
  • Let it dry and go slowly adding the darker tones.
