Since the api are increasingly in crisis and at risk of extinction due to environmental pollution and, more generally, some reckless choices of men, experts have wondered several times how we can help them survive. There are those who believe that the dandelion is a plant of fundamental importance in this sense and several campaigns are circulating to save bees by not killing dandelions, but is this really the case?

Dandelion, also known as dandelion, is a plant rich in properties and benefits but also very infesting. This is why its flowers are often mowed away or, in some cases, even the use of herbicides on lawns is used to limit their spread. This is certainly not good for the environment but there are also those who say that by discouraging the growth of this plant in lawns we are not doing the best for bees. In fact, dandelions would provide a readily available food source for these valuable pollinating insects.

So do bees really need dandelions to survive? The reality is a little more complicated than what you might think at first glance especially with regard to the social campaigns that are circulating with Memes and images that invite you to safeguard the dandelion to protect the bees.

Don't kill dandelios, save the bees! But do bees really need dandelions?

First of all it must be specified that there are different types of bees: domestic bees kept by small producers of honey and other products, bees found in commercial hives that are used to pollinate trees and vegetables useful for agriculture and finally wild bees.

The latter are the ones that interest us most as they act as precious pollinators in our vegetable gardens and in the fields in a completely free way. These insects, which should be protected for their role in perpetuating wildlife as well as wildflowers, are often foraging for food and may suffer if they don't find abundant blooms. Among these, those of dandelion, but is this plant really the best for their well-being?

Don't kill dandelios, save the bees! But do bees really need dandelions?

Actually no, dandelions lack important amino acids, which bees need to reproduce. These are arginine, isoleucine, leucine and valine, which this plant is lacking. Research has found that honey bees fed on dandelion pollen have low success in brood production. This does not mean that the plant damages them but that, although it is useful for nourishing them, it is not exactly ideal for the survival of their species, such as to justify these campaigns.

It is therefore an acceptable food, an important part of the bees' diet, but not complete and sufficient on its own. A bit like potatoes could be for us, if we eat only this tuber we will survive but we will lack nutrients that are important for our well-being.Bes, just like humans, need a varied diet and a range of different food sources in order to enjoy excellent health.

To help save bees, we can plant more flowers in our gardens, gardens and terraces. But above all, avoid herbicides on our lawns. In this regard, read also:
