Dogs and owners. New rules in force since last September 7 for those who own a dog. The Official Gazette has in fact published aorder of the Ministry of Health which dictates new rules of conduct for 4-legged owners.

The ordinance, which will be valid for one year, was created in order to "adopt precautionary measures aimed at protecting public safety from the aggression of dogs due to the occurrence of accidents, especially in the domestic environment, linked to the incorrect management of animals by owners “.

Here are some points of the ordinance:

    1. Leash. The first novelty concerns the leash: first-person owners or those who own a dog not owned by them must always use a leash in all urban areas and in places open to the public, while dogs will be free to roam in the areas dedicated to them. Furthermore, the leash must be a maximum of one and a half meters long.

    2. Muzzle. Regardless of breed or size, the owner or whoever owns the dog must in any case have a rigid or soft muzzle with him, which must be worn by the dog at the request of the competent authorities or in the event that the safety of people or animals is jeopardized. .

    3. I did. Not everyone knows that dog poop can become a privileged vehicle for bacteria, viruses and other parasites. It must therefore be collected always and in any case and the Ministry order confirms it, urging you to bring with you all the suitable tools to easily remove the feces of your dogs from the street.

    4. Offenders and surroundings. Those who have problems with justice will not be able to choose to own a dog considered highly "aggressive"(For which, among other things, the owner will have had to stipulate a insurance policy of civil liability for damages against third parties), as well as minors, interdicted and disabled people due to mental infirmity. And not only that: the training of dogs to enhance their aggressiveness and the subjecting of dogs to doping are also prohibited.

Finally, the ordinance has no validity for dogs of the Armed Forces, of the police forces, for those of people with disabilities and for those used for herding flocks.

In short, new rules for dog owners, but even before these "obligations", it is worth remembering that common sense should always represent the first fundamental rule.
