In the vicinity of Ierapetra, Crete, a dog was reported to Takis, the volunteer who has been taking care of thousands of stray animals abandoned on the island for years. Man, who dedicates his life to animals, has saved hundreds of them from difficult situations. And this is one of them.
The request for help came just yesterday: a dog with a broken leg, with one eye eaten by parasites who lives outdoors on a large and lush property in a plastic water storage tank. This is her bed and this has been the life the animal has known so far.
She is only 2 kilo and she lives in a plastic box , her leg is broken and her eye is destroyed.

After arriving on site and documenting the rescue, Takis has taken the dog into foster care. The next step is the visit to the vet. Barely 2 kilos of weight for this tiny creature that veterinarians have already diagnosed with severe dehydration.
The dog will need other checks to investigate the situation of the hind leg and her general health. It seems to be about 3 years old, but a clinical picture not of the best.

It is certainly not the first case of mistreatment Takis has witnessed in Greece and it will not be the last. Over the years, the man with the immense heart has saved dogs in skin and bones, tied in chains for life or abandoned in the countryside without water or food to make them die in agony.
But fate gave the dog a second chance, making her meet Takis and his volunteers. Welcomed in the Takis Shelter now she will have someone who will really take care of her.
