The characteristic and unpleasant smell of garlic in our body is the result of some compounds containing it sulfur which, once this food is ingested, move into the bloodstream and then escape through the lungs and sweat glands.

So what to do if you have eaten garlic and immediately after you have an important meeting or do you have to be in contact with people? According to Sheryl Barringer of Ohio State University, lead author of the study, there is a very simple remedy: the Apple! In fact, this fruit, eaten raw, helps fight rI exhale garlic eliminating those components like the allyl sulfide which give the characteristic smell to our breath.

Other remedies suggested by researchers useful for dealing with garlic breath are

    • la lemonade,
    • green tea,
    • parsley,
    • spinaches,
    • mint and more generally all foods rich in polyphenols.

A great way to prevent this problem is to eat garlic together with one of these foods. In fact, it would seem that some enzymes present in these foods are able to accelerate the breakdown of the sulfuric compounds that cause the smell that we all know well.

To understand this, the study administered raw garlic to the volunteers chosen for the experiment. Soon after, people were asked to eat different foods in an attempt to mask the smell of their breath. At that point the researchers analyzed the concentration of chemicals in the breath participants to understand what effect various foods had on the garlic smell.
