Aluminum can migrate into raw foods, but also into foil-cooked foods, with or without condiments, and can become toxic to our health

The potential has been confirmed several times danger of aluminum in contact with food. Not just aluminum foil releases particles inside the food highly acidic raw foods, such as lemon and tomatoes, but a new side effect has been discovered by British researchers, who have linked exposure to aluminum to a new risk for the brain.

Aluminum is a toxic metal. For this reason, EFSA has set gods maximum exposure limits, related to body weight: for example, a person weighing 60 kilograms should not exceed 60 milligrams of aluminum particle intake per week. The problem is that there are other sources of aluminum, including water, so it is easy to exceed the maximum tolerable dose of our body.

The study published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Diseases aimed to investigate how aluminum exposure can affect people's genetic predisposition to various forms of dementia by examining the presence of aluminum in the brains of donors with a family history of Alzheimer's.

The analysis showed that the very small traces of aluminum that can enter our body, for example when we drink from a can or if we have wrapped a sandwich with this material, they can cause serious damage to our cognitive function in the long term.

The researchers indeed found that aluminum was present in the same areas of the brain where protein tangles are found That appear in the early stages of Alzheimer's. The study also showed how aluminum itself could play a role in the formation of such tangles and plaques that precede the onset of Alzheimer's. Researchers also pointed out that one reason for aluminum's effect on dementia could be that, as we age, our kidneys become less able to filter this substance out of the body, which could lead to an accumulation in the brain.

Limiting exposure, therefore, is the choice we have to make: there are alternatives to aluminum, among other things also a source of environmental pollution. Foods can be stored in the refrigerator in glass containers or wrapped in a cloth treated with beeswax.

For cooking food in the oven, on the other hand, prefer ceramic dishes and, for packed lunches, sandwiches and sanck, choose to transport everything using compostable film, in addition to waterproofed fabric thanks to beeswax, or simply wrapped in a cloth napkin and placed inside bamboo containers.
