How to best build birdhouses or bird feeders? Casette e bird feeders sometimes they become real decorations for the garden but if they are not functional they can be useless, if not even harmful for birds, in the opinion of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).
The organization is based in Scotland and represents one of the major realities for the protection of fauna and the safeguarding of biodiversity, not only in the United Kingdom. In fact, its role is considered important throughout Europe. In the opinion of the RSPB the time has come to seriously rethink our way of choosing or building a birdhouse or bird feeder.
The most important tip is to give birth to simple wooden houses and mangers that are really suitable for hosting birds. Maybe they won't look beautiful from an aesthetic point of view and won't become decorative objects, but what really matters in this case is practicality.
Ben Andrews, consultant for the RSPB, has explained that the nesting houses they are intended to house defenseless and vulnerable birds, so they must be built to protect them and so that they are not dangerous.
The RSPB has noted that birdhouses and bird feeders have been for sale in recent years not suitable to host them. They are mostly decorative elements for the garden. Andrews noted that nesting birdhouses should always be made in robust and waterproofed wood.
In his opinion, plastic, ceramic and metal are not suitable materials because they could overheat in the summer and lead to condensation and humidity in the winter.

Do not forget the importance of colors. Better to choose natural colors that harmonize with the surrounding landscape. Bright colors are considered problematic because they could attract predators and other unwanted guests to the birdhouses.

According to National Ornithological Society of Great Britain it is important to favor nesting e promote biodiversity installing bird feeders and birdhouses a little in advance of the arrival of the spring. However, they should not be placed too close to houses, as they can confuse birds and cause them to collide with walls and windows.
