They conquered the web with their extraordinary beauty and made albinism their strong point. They are the Brazilian twins Lara e Mara Bawar, protagonists together with the sister of the photos of Vinicius Terranova.

Rare Flowers, or rather rare flowers, is how Terranova defines the two eleven-year-olds born to African parents but born in Sao Paulo in Brazil. Affected by albinism, Lara and Mara boast collaborations with many fashion brands and are very popular on social networks. Their Instagram profile has 134 followers.

It was the Swiss photographer who discovered them, seeing albinism as a particular characteristic. Lara and Mara in many shots pose together with their older sister Sheila, the contrast between the color of their skin creates a truly extraordinary effect and clears the taboo that still exists in many states on people with albinism.

Let's think for example that albinos, in some areas of West Africa, are victims of persecution and they are kidnapped in their homes because their limbs are considered to be ingredients to be used in magical potions. Since 2014, as many as 69 people with albinism have been attacked in Malawi and at least 18 of them have died: this was revealed some time ago by a report released by Amnesty International, which sheds light on the violence and discrimination to which albinos are subject in the country. African.

Fortunately, however, Lara and Mara were born in Brazil and not Africa, China, India and Pakistan where there is still a lot to work on from this point of view.

Albinism is one congenital and hereditary anomaly, characterized by partial or total depigmentation of the skin, iris, hair and hair, which causes a much lighter color than normal, often even white. But as these beautiful shots demonstrate, diversity can be seen in a different light, that of celebration and not discrimination.

Terranova himself explains that 'diversity is not a negative concept, rather a strength, a wealth to be valued'.
