Lemons and vinegar

This detergent a basis of lemons ed vinegar washes dishes very well, despite being free of surfactants, thanks to the degreasing action of these two ingredients. It is simple and inexpensive to make and has a very similar texture to that of a gel detergent for industrial dishes.

Materials: 1 bottle for detergent or glass jars, a saucepan, a funnel, a blender

ingredients: 8 lemons, 800 ml of water, 300 g of fine salt, 200 ml of vinegar

Procedure: boil the lemons until softened. Cut them into small pieces and remove the seeds. Blend the lemons, filter through a sieve if necessary, and pour everything into a pot together with water, vinegar and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Then turn off the heat, let it cool and mix with an immersion blender. Transfer the detergent to a dispenser bottle or glass jars. You will get it at least half a liter. It can be stored without problems at room temperature for a few months.

Liquid soap and bicarbonate

For the preparation of this recipe, included in ours Guide to ecological and affordable cleaning, you will need to have the unscented and ecological liquid soap, as well as baking soda and essential oil. The ideal essential oil in this case, both for its disinfectant power and for its aroma, is that of lemon.

Materials: a bottle of 500 ml, a spoon, a coffee spoon, funnel.



ingredients: baking soda, liquid soap, essential oil, water.

Procedure: pour into the bottle a teaspoon of bicarbonate, 1/6 of liquid soap. Pour in the water until full. Add 15/20 drops of essential oil and shake gently.

Flake soap

With this recipe you will get circa 1 liter excellent detergent for dishes, suitable for use for hand washing. For its preparation it will be necessary to use del homemade soap with the cold method, to be reduced into flakes with a grater.

Materials: 1 bottle with dispenser, 1 pot, 1 funnel, 1 wooden rod

ingredients: 200 gr of natural soap flakes, 1 liter of water, 10 drops of lemon essential oil

Procedure: after grating the soap, pour the flakes into a saucepan and cover it with 1 liter of boiling water. Stir with the help of a wooden rod or a wooden spoon e let it sit for the whole day or all night. When the necessary time has elapsed, your detergent will have cooled down and magically reached the desired consistency. If it appears too thick, add a little warm water, a teaspoon at a time, and mix. Add lemon essential oil only when the detergent is completely cold, mix with the wooden stick and transfer to a bottle.

Lye and ash paste

With this recipe you will get approx 220 ml of lye e 250 gr of ash paste. The lye can be used in small doses when soaking the dishes, to facilitate subsequent washing, while the ash paste will be applied to a sponge and used to scrub the most difficult dirt when washing the dishes by hand. The results will be amazing.



Materials: 1 old pot with lid, 1 glass or wooden rod, 1 pair of gloves
1 thin cloth or filter paper, 1 strainer, glass jars

ingredients: 175 gr of wood ash, 875 ml of water

Procedure: after sifting, pour the ash and water into the pan. Bring to a boil and simmer over very low heat for 1 hour and a half, stirring occasionally with a rod. Turn off the heat and let it rest for 12 hours. Filter the liquid obtained through a sieve covered with filter paper or a thin cloth and transfer it to a glass jar. In a separate jar pour the ash paste. The whole it is preserved without problemi even for a year.

5) Do-it-yourself dishwasher tablets

Here is a prescription useful for those who use the dishwasher and want to replace the classics tablets for washing with a more natural alternative. Choose del ecological liquid soap homemade, real Marseille soap or liquid Aleppo soap as regards the ingredients to be used.

Materials: 1 bowl, 1 tablespoon, flexible ice molds

ingredients: 300 grams of baking soda, water, 1 or 2 tablespoons of liquid soap, 15-20 drops of lemon essential oil

Procedure: in a bowl pour the baking soda, liquid soap and essential oil. Stir and add water little by little to even out the mixture. Pour it into ice molds and let yours dry dishwasher tablets for a few hours before turning them out. You can keep them in one or more glass jars.
