Un temporary tattoo which measures i blood glucose levels. Researchers from the University of San Diego, in the USA, have made it. It is an ultrathin device that allows diabetics to control the glycemia.

The goal is to say goodbye to finger pricks for sufferers of diabetes. The device is applied directly to the skin. It is a kind of patch, but resembles a temporary tattoo. It is able to measure the glucose present in the fluids under the skin.

The researchers ofUniversity of San Diego they pursued the goal of developing a system that was capable of measure blood glucose in a non-invasive way. It involved finding alternatives to avoid puncture, puncture the skin or undergo a blood draw.

The "temporary tattoo" for measuring blood sugar is meant to be applied directly to an arm and not to cause discomfort or irritation. Definitely more comfortable than the practice of the classic "puncture".

La search in question was published in the magazine Analytical Chemistry with the title of “Tattoo-Based Noninvasive Glucose Monitoring: A Proof-of-Concept Study”. The application of the ultra-thin device would imitate that of a tattoo with which to decorate the skin thanks to the paper transfers.

The device is able to generate an imperceptible current that is able to attract the sodium ions present in the fluid between one cell and another. Just these sodium ions they deal with the transport of glucose.

In the future the applications of this "temporary tattoo" may not only concern diabetes, but also other related conditions, such as kidney disease. The production of the device would require a negligible amount and would allow it to be introduced on the market at a cost accessible to all. The device, with the appropriate improvements, could communicate the analysis data via bluetooth directly to the doctor, to save time and money.
