The detox diet is a great temptation when you overdo it with food and drink, you notice excessive abdominal bloating, you have gained some weight or you simply want to carry on. a detoxifying period for the body, which never hurts!

Toxins continually accumulate in our bodies due to an incorrect diet, smog, the use of tobacco or alcohol, the intake of drugs but also more simply due to particularly stressful periods.

There is no set detox diet and always the same. The ideal would be to prefer one healthy diet based on vegetables and fresh fruit rich in vitamins and minerals that help purify the body but also whole grains and legumes. Instead, especially fried or overly fatty foods (including condiments such as butter) and alcohol should be avoided as well as limiting animal proteins. As you will have understood, these are advice that are almost always valid but that should not be taken to extremes, risking to reduce the calorie intake too much and therefore putting us at risk of deficiencies.

But now let's find out more specifically the characteristics of the detox diet.

WHEN TO DO IT

You can follow a detox diet immediately after the Christmas or Easter holidays if you have exaggerated a bit with food and drink but also in other periods in which the need is felt or the desire to get back in shape. In fact, it must be considered that, by helping to dispose of toxins, the detox diet is also useful for recovering energy, losing some weight and making the body work better with benefits for the mind as well.

The most suitable period of time to follow a detox diet can be established independently or better with the help of an expert according to your needs. You can also choose to follow a detoxifying diet 1 week every 2 or 3 months or just a few days but once a month.

BENEFITS OF THE DETOX DIET

The benefits of the detox diet are many. This type of power supply allows you to purify not only from dyes, preserved, flavor enhancers and other substances often contained in industrial foods, but also by most pesticides if you prefer foods from organic farming.

All the organs of the body benefit from it: liver, kidneys, intestines, etc. with evident repercussions on the general well-being of the organism. You can see the advantages for example on skin and hair that appear brighter and healthier, on the degree of energy of the body that freed from toxins feels lighter, the sense of abdominal swelling may disappear and, given the increased intake of fibers, any constipation may resolve. Other benefits that may appear are one better digestion, an increase in diuresis and therefore a greater drainage of liquids, stronger immune defenses and a more operative brain.

Of course i benefits they start to notice after a few days and they will be more or less evident also depending on the degree of intoxication of the person. Therefore, they will not always appear easily and immediately ...

In summary, the detox diet can:

Deflate the belly

• Improve constipation

• Help digestion

• Strengthen the immune system

• Help the brain

Improve the degree of energy

• Make skin and hair look brighter

To lose a little bit of weight

Help drain fluids

As we have already said the duration is variable according to needs, generally it takes a few days, maximum one week. In some cases you can choose to follow a diet of this kind, obviously well structured and with the right amount of food of each category (carbohydrates, proteins and healthy fats), even in the long term.

It is clear, however, that if you then resume your life made up of an unregulated diet, a sedentary lifestyle, bad habits, etc. it will take very little time to lose all the benefits obtained.

After a detox diet, regardless of how long it is followed it is good to continue with a balanced diet and with the right amount of physical activity (even a simple walk for at least 30 minutes a day is enough)

ONE FINAL ADVICE

There are specific natural remedies that serve to support the work of the liver in its purification work including dandelion and milk thistle, burdock, artichoke, aloe vera juice and more. Yes they can exploit the potential of these herbs during the period in cui you follow the detox diet.

THE OPINION OF THE NUTRITIONIST

We asked ad Irene Tornisello, nutritionist biologist, to give us some detox advice. Here's what he told us:

“The period following the Christmas holidays is the richest in good intentions, first of all to go on a diet. However, adopting restrictive diets to remedy the damage is not a winning strategy. It will be enough to recover or start follow a correct lifestyle by varying your diet, ensuring good hydration and practicing physical activity. Eat in a balanced way, using seasonal vegetables, vegetables and fruit, introducing all the useful nutrients in the right quantities and portions allows our body to eliminate any annoyances and swelling typical of holidays ".

What can you recommend so concretely?

"Start the day with a healthy breakfast and don't forget snacks, consume the right amount of water, at least 1,5 liter a day, avoid alcohol, junk food and junk food, the presence of antioxidant substances plant products are rich in, do not skip main meals and avoid fasting. Practice physical activity and use a tisana to facilitate the work of the liver. Following these simple tips will allow you not only to relieve yourself of holiday addictions, but also to ensure lasting results over time ".
