Detergents dangerous for health and the environment: despite analyzes and reports, they are still on sale in Switzerland

In 2021, the cantonal laboratory in Basel had analyzed 50 cleaning detergents and detergents, reporting 18 in particular as dangerous to health and the environment. K-Tipp magazine returns to talk about these products as, despite public reporting, some are still on sale in Switzerland

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

The cantonal laboratory of Basel City, after analyzing 50 detergents, reported as many as 18 as they represented "an immediate risk to health or the environment". As a result, he had ordered the sales of these products to stop.

In fact, however, after many months, no recall has been issued and this concretely means that potentially dangerous chemicals are still on the market and can be found among the products that Swiss consumers continue to use in their homes, without knowing their risks.

What do the recommended detergents contain? In some cases it is corrosive substances, used without the necessary warnings for users.

The alarm on this situation was raised by K-Tipp who received the list of products in question from the cantonal laboratory on the basis of the law on public information, and wrote:

It shows that many manufacturers minimize the risks of the chemicals used. They use corrosive substances without warning.

Of the 50 detergents, only 2 met the legal requirements in all respects: many had small defects but some, as already mentioned, contained potentially dangerous substances.

Among the indicted products there was also the Cif Crème Citrus (in a version sold in Switzerland) which, despite the notification and requests for changes, is still on sale as it is.

As we read on K-Tipp:

Il detergent Cif denounced by the cantonal laboratory of Basel is still on sale with the same colorful comic pack that has been criticized. Schaffhausen is responsible for measurements at the manufacturer Unilever based in Thayngen SH. The cantonal chemist from Schaffhausen writes that the case has been left pending due to a lack of staff. Unilever has until June to make changes.

And since it is May it seems that he is taking his time before making the required changes to the product!

Even the “Wilderness Wash” detergent is still on store shelves without the mandatory notice it was supposed to contain. According to the cantonal laboratory in Zurich, the label "in the context of self-control" had to be corrected.
