Every day we use them in one of the most delicate areas of our body, we talk about the deodorants that help us to keep the bad smell away, but at what price? The German magazine Oko Test compares 27 brands to determine which products are safe and which contain aluminum, which has long been in the dock.
We find it everywhere: in water, food and cosmetics, especially deodorants and antiperspirants, which can contain up to 20% aluminum salts in the form of aluminum hydrochlorides and zirconium hydrates.
Prolonged use of these substances has been linked to the risk of developing breast cancer, but currently, as Airc writes, "epidemiological studies have not shown significant relationships between the use of deodorant and the onset of the disease and those carried out on aluminum did not reveal a relationship between its effect on estrogen receptors and breast cancer ”.
As reported on the AIRC website, a 2002 study compared data from over 800 women with breast cancer and as many healthy ones, examining their hygiene habits, and showed no difference between the two groups as far as it's about deodorants or hair removal.
A systematic review of all observational studies and two case-control studies was also published in 2016.
The review confirms the absence of a relationship between deodorants and cancer risk, but also points to the lack of further studies of good quality.

What can you do?
Check the ingredient list and avoid the uncomfortable ones, besides aluminum, like propylparaben, butylparaben, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, triclosan.
Do not use deodorant, but carry out proper personal hygiene. Rely on more natural alternatives, such as rock alum (or potassium alum) or make a DIY deodorant.
