Dear bills, these appliances consume more energy (the tricks to save)

He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

The consequences of the increases in the cost of electricity and gas are starting to be felt and weigh on the monthly budget of families. If the price hikes are not up to us, we can do something to waste less energy and save some money at the end of the month - starting with a more conscious use of appliances, which are primarily responsible for our electricity consumption.

Not all appliances consume the same amount of energy and knowing how much they affect the final price of the bill helps to reduce costs (and also the environmental impact). There are three factors that contribute to increasing or decreasing the energy consumption of an appliance: size (obviously, a hair dryer will consume much less energy than a washing machine), the energy class and the ways in which we use it.

If we have to buy a new appliance, let's make sure we get it belonging to a high energy class - in this way we will save energy and pollute less: for example, an A +++ energy class washing machine will consume much less than a simple class A or lower class one. , and any increased price at the time of purchase will result in long-term savings in the bill.

On the other hand, considering the appliances we already have at home, which ones weigh the most on the energy bill? And most importantly, how can we change our usage habits to waste less energy?

Dishwasher

In addition to consuming a lot of water, the dishwasher is also among the appliances that consume the most electricity to function. What we can do to save energy is use it only if fully loaded - on the contrary, if we have few dishes to wash, it is better to wash them by hand.

Another tip we can give to save energy using the dishwasher is avoid the drying function with hot air: once the washing is finished, let the dishes air dry by simply opening the appliance door or, alternatively, take a few minutes to dry the dishes with a clean kitchen towel before placing them in the cupboard.

Electric oven

Assuming that the amount of energy consumed depends on the cooking temperature and the method of use (grill, static, ventilated), we can say that the electric oven is also one of the most energy-intensive appliances: its energy consumption varies between 1 and 1,5 Kilowatt / hour. Therefore, especially for small preparations, it is better to opt for faster and more sustainable cooking methods, which do not involve the use of the oven, or invest in the purchase of a smaller oven, which consumes less energy. Alternatively, we can choose the ventilated cooking mode: food preparation times will be faster and this will save us energy.

Washing Machine

There are good consumption habits to save electricity (and water) when washing clothes in the washing machine: as in the case of the dishwasher, it is good to use the appliance only if fully loaded, so as not to waste resources. Also, it is good practice to wash clothes a low temperatures (cold or at most 30 ° C) to limit energy consumption: the clothes will be cleaned and perfumed the same and we will save a few euros at the end of the month.

Iron

To heat up, a boiler iron burns about 2 Kilowatts / hour; subsequently, once the maximum temperature is reached, the energy consumption decreases. It is therefore better not to turn it on to iron a single T-shirt or a pair of jeans, but to concentrate the ironing of many items of clothing at the same time - precisely to optimize the energy consumption necessary to activate the appliance. In addition to this, we can minimize the time of use of the iron by choosing to iron only the necessary (for example, pajamas and sheets can also be used without ironing). OR do not iron at all!
