In recent months, almost all of us have seen our gas and electricity bills rise disproportionately. Against the price increases we can do little, but there is a very simple way to start save on bills.

Unplug the chargers and turn off i standby devices it could in fact significantly decrease the monthly electricity bill.

Some devices, in fact, behave like real energy "vampires" by continuing to consume electricity even when they are off or not in use.

The amount of energy lost depends on the device: typically, the appliances that consume more when in standby mode, they are televisions, computers, audio systems and microwaves with digital timers.

To check for energy vampires in your home you can do an experiment: just check the meter after turning off all the appliances (including the refrigerator) without disconnecting them from the socket.

According to estimates by the Natural Resources Defense Council, an international organization for the defense of the environment, this inactive load of electricity has a large impact on the bill.

This is because the energy consumed by the devices does not vary that much between when they are on and when they are in standby.

The various devices and chargers connected to the socket represent on average between 10 and 23% of the total consumption of a family and can make up up to a quarter of the bill of the light.

According to estimates, a family could therefore save money from 10 to 30 euros per month on the invoice, if only he remembered to turn off standby devices and disconnect the cell phone chargers.

A useful strategy to not forget TVs, computers and monitors in standby is to connect the appliances to a multiple socket with a switch, so that you can turn the socket off whenever they are not in use.
