David Popa, the artist who paints gigantic eco-murals on the rocks of the mountains

The New York artist creates true masterpieces in nature using only elements of the Earth. His murals will blow your mind!

New York artist David Popa has shown that the impact of art can be zero. He paints fantastic murals on rocks in the Nordic regions of Finland and Norway, using only natural pigments, extracted from minerals or other elements of the earth, just like in the earliest cave paintings. Since he uses these biodegradable colors, his works last a short time. Already at the first rain or snowfall, much of the design vanishes without compromising the place that welcomed it.

Popa was born in the United States, but lives with his family in Finland. After experimenting with different techniques and carrying out countless tests, it was the rocks in the archipelago of the Nordic country that amazed and inspired him for what would become his technique. The places where he paints are carefully chosen: small remote islands, which he accesses only with his inflatable paddle board, where he has the opportunity to work in peace and in full connection with nature.

In addition to framing, the rocks near the water provide it with unique and enchanting textures and shapes. Being an island, it has no problem finding the water it needs to mix the natural pigments.

His large photo-realistic work is only visible from above; for this reason, to create his works, outline his work and photograph it, Popa uses a drone. Often they are so large and easily confused with the same tones of the rocks, that you might not notice that you are standing on one of them.

Faced with current environmental problems, David's art is a detonator for the conscience and a call to nature, whose beauty he transmits to us, encouraging us to preserve it with all our strength.
