Damage to the power line that feeds the Chernobyl nuclear power plant

The Russian army has again damaged the power line that supplies energy to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the city of Slavutych

The power line feeding the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the city of Slavutych was damaged by the occupation forces after Ukrenergo's repair crew restored the line. Exactly so writes Ukrenergo, the company that manages the Ukrainian national electricity transmission grid.

Only yesterday, the high voltage line had been repaired and put back into operation and in the early evening Ukrenergo had started to power the line to restore the infrastructure of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the city of Slavutych.

However, before the power supply was fully restored, the occupation forces damaged it again. NEC Ukrenergo's repair crew is expected to head back to the occupied territory near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant to find and repair new damage to the line, the note read.

Ukrenergo points out that the Chornobyl nuclear power plant is an important facility that cannot be left without a reliable energy supply, while the electricity supply of Slavutych residents also depends on the power lines of the nuclear power plant. Therefore, the quick and unhindered access of Ukrenergo repair teams to these lines for inspection and repair is extremely important not only for Ukrainian consumers but also for Europe as a whole.

A stable power supply will help prevent a recurrence of the Chernobyl disaster and save the life and health of people who may be affected, Ukrenergo said.

Chernobyl was taken by Russian troops on February 24th. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, in a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi on March 10, insisted on the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from the Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plants to prevent a nuclear catastrophe in Europe. Since 9 March there has been no power supply to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
