    Exercise is very important to prevent diabetes and to stay healthy in general. This is why experts advise some patients at risk of diabetes not only to follow a diet suitable for prevention but also to ride a bicycle and walk more.

    The new study was published online on Plos One. The authors, a group of Danish researchers, have pointed out that cycling is a recreational activity and a way to improve health of the population in many countries of the world.

    The aim of the study was to evaluate the association between the habit of cycling and the risk of type 2 diabetes on Danish adult patients involved in the Diet, Cancer and Health Cohort Study.

    A group of around 24 men and 27 women from Denmark aged between 50 and 65 completed a health and lifestyle questionnaire that also included questions about cycling.

    We know that Denmark, together with Holland, is among the countries where the use of the bike for daily commuting is more common. The study participants suffered from neither type 2 diabetes nor any other disease.

    From the analysis of the data collected, the health status and lifestyle of the participants, the researchers stated that cycling reduces the risk of getting type 2 diabetes and that the more you pedal, the more the possibility of getting sick recedes, even in people over the age of 50.

    Given the really positive results of the new study, the researchers decided to give it to all citizens an important recommendation, that is, to ride a bicycle as much as possible to keep fit and healthy, as well as to prevent diabetes.
