A very powerful image that of a "trench" entirely made up of books
The books? They keep you away from stupidity and emptiness and… from incoming splinters. As Russian forces moved closer and closer to Kiev, a Ukrainian urban planning researcher used his massive library to protect himself from possible smashed windows. And the image of the exterior of the house is as strong and symbolic as ever.
He is Lev Shevchenko, an urban researcher from Kiev, and the one he photographed is there window of a neighbor who had erected a real wall of books to protect his apartment from any glass breakage.
In fact, from the window you can see a wall of volumes, erected as a sort of "barricade" to protect the house from a possible explosion.
“Day eight” is the caption Shevchenko used to accompany the shot, already a symbol of the population's resistance under the Russian assault.
Day eight.
