Contaminated water in Abruzzo. 70 pages of a shocking report of the Higher Institute of Health they speak clearly and reveal how the mega dump of toxic poisons in Bussi sul Tirino has polluted the aquifers they give to drink 700 thousand citizens.

Indeed, the ISS reported in one report the conclusions of the analyzes carried out on contaminated watersand from the landfill in the Province of Pescara, requested by the State Attorney's Office and deposited in Chieti, where they are the leaders of Montedison and Solvay are on trial with more than 20 suspects after the investigation by the Forestry Corps.

According to the Institute of Health, “the quality of the water has been indisputably, significantly and persistently compromised due to the carrying out of industrial activities of extraordinary environmental impact in areas at high risk for the aquifer and for uncontrolled spillage actions“.

And this is how, without any kind of control, the water was distributed to about 700 people and even to hospitals and schools.

La report, drawn up on the story of the mega landfill of industrial poisons in Bussi and on the contamination of the aquifers of Val Pescara by the technical consultants of the State Attorney Pietro Comba, Ivano Iavarone, Mirko Baghino and Enrico Veschetti, thus entered in the file for the Bussi trial that is taking place in the Court of Assizes in Chieti.

It reads: "The lack of any information relating to the contamination of water with a multiplicity of dangerous and toxic substances, only a part of which may be delayed and discontinuously subject to detection in the water, has jeopardized the possibility of carrying out adequate treatments over time removal of the same substances from the waters ".

And guess who is paying for it? There population, of course yes!

“The significant risk in place consumers were not notified, who therefore have not been in a position to know the situation and make conscious choices ", therefore" incontrovertible objective elements that are coherent and convergent in configuring a significant and continuous danger to the health of the population exposed to pollutants through consumption and use of water ", closes the Higher Institute of Health.

Meanwhile, the president of the Environment Commission of the Realacci Chamber has resubmitted a question to the Ministers of the Environment and Economic Development on the Bussi landfill and stresses that the landfill (about thirty hectares) is now "an ecological bomb, the largest of 'Europe, buried at the foot of the Gran Sasso and Majella Park, in Abruzzo “.

And he's not wrong when you consider that almost 250 tons of toxic waste and industrial waste were buried in the landfill of the production of chlorine and soda, bleach and formaldehyde, perchlorates and ammonium chloride offormer Montecatini Edison chemical center, "For environmental damage - writes Realacci - estimated at 8,5 billion euros and a cost of 600 million for reclamation".

As explained by the Abbruzzese Forum: "The polluted S. Angelo Wells, which supplied the entire Valpescara downstream of Bussi, were definitively closed in 2007 following private analyzes (then it was discovered, with access to the documents, that at least from 2004 the public bodies were aware of the contamination with the ARTA analyzes), complaints, countless complaints and a real investigation work by the WWF and the Water Forum between May and August 2007, on which the parliamentary question of the deputy Maurizio Acerbo. So much so that even then the Istituto Superiore di Sanità wrote to the associations (and only to them, to underline their role in the affair with respect to that of the public bodies involved!) That the water of the S. Angelo Wells was not suitable for human consumption . Following these actions, wells were dug upstream of the polluted area, the S. Rocco wells, which today supply the Valpescara.

The forum, to investigate the issue and indicate the priorities to be addressed both today and in the immediate future, has organized a conference for tomorrow 27 March at 11:00 at the Primo Moroni bookshop in Pescara (Via Quarto dei Mille, 29) in which will talk about reclamation, delays and lack of transparency as well as requesting a civil party for the entities in the preliminary hearing of the bussi-bis procedure which involves the top management of the aqueduct and a representative of the ASL who will be held on the next 15 April.

In short, after almost half a century of complaints and after years of trials, it is time for a decision to start'reclamation, requalification and industrial reconversion operation. And not only in Bussi sul Tirino, but also in all the other disaster areas of our beautiful country.

We receive and publish the correction sent to us by Solvay:

Solvay is a Civil Party and none of its executives is charged in the trial initiated at the Court of Assise at the Court of Chieti for environmental pollution and the mega landfill discovered in 2007, carried out in the Bussi sul Tirino area in the 60-70s.

Solvay is the civil party, not accused, in the trial against former manager of the company (Mont) Edison, accused of poisoning and malicious disaster committed before the Solvay Group, in May 2002, acquired the industrial site of Bussi from (Mont) Edison on the Tirino.

It is therefore necessary to clearly distinguish this trial against former executives (Mont) Edison / Ausimont, pending in the Court of Assizes of Chieti, from the recent preliminary investigations, conducted by the Pescara Public Prosecutor's Office against seven Solvay managers, which concern an alleged failure to reclaim three other minor landfills north of the industrial site and an alleged failure of the hydraulic barrier installed by Solvay as the owner not responsible for the pollution of the site.

Following the recent closure of these preliminary investigations, Solvay's lawyers are preparing to request the dismissal of the charges, generated by an unfounded and obviously interested complaint filed by Edison.
