To make it known, the dossier presented by Conai (the National Packaging Consortium) during the conference "Policies for the green new deal: how sustainability can restart the global economy", which opened the 13th edition of Ecomondo in Rimini.
Overall, in the ten years of recovery activities carried out by the consortium, according to the data provided, they would be 48,2 million tons of CO2 avoid e 76mila new jobs created as well 6,7 billion euros in total saved. Economic benefits for the country deriving from the reduction of material sent to landfill and the placing on the market of secondary raw materials.
"The balance of 10 years of activity - underlined the President of the Consortium, Piero Perron in his speech - confirms for the Conai system un central role in the recovery of packaging waste, at the service of citizens and businesses, alongside the institutions. A reality that has also meant the construction of know-how and scientific and productive experiences, which today allows the country to count on an efficient system, which guarantees the collection and recovery of the material collected in a differentiated manner by the municipalities ".
In 2008 70% of the packaging waste which in terms of environmental benefits have resulted in the failure to open 325 new landfills, all'incremento del 108% of the amount of recycled packaging and halved in the last ten years (from 70% to 31,5%) the share of waste ending up in landfills.
Despite even the world of recycling compares with the crisis and is affected by the reduction in consumption (which translates into less packaging and resources for the Consortium System), the forecasts for 2009 are also positive as they are offset by the increase in separate waste collection.

To further raise awareness among citizens on the issues of recovery, Conai is also about to launch a new advertising campaign "From what what is born again"In the main national media, as well as supporting the 1st national recycling week announced from 13 to 18 November with local initiatives a Milan, Turin, Naples, Rome and a virtual square on the web.
