Dyeing the nails of cats and dogs with enamel, imposing exhausting sessions of "paws" on four-legged friends. This is the latest craze that is raging. A fashion that is anything but safe for animals.

Did you think you saw and heard everything? Wrong. In recent times, unfortunately, fashions have taken place, even difficult to define as such, which can put animal health at risk.

One of these is the Nail art for cats and dogs. In fact, the nails of their paws are filed, cut and decorated with brightly colored glazes with the strangest shapes. If for women it is a moment of relaxation, for animals it is not at all.

Not just glazes. Stickers of various shapes and colors are also applied to their nails. There is everything: flowers, hearts, stars and shapes that animals will hardly appreciate.

The trend was launched years ago by Warren London which markets pet care products. It indeed launched a line of felt-tip pens ad hoc.

    The products used

There are many solutions dedicated to pets, not only with brushes but also with special markers. Even if the recommendation is to use water-based and non-toxic glazes and products, free of toluene and formaldehyde, often present in common glazes, are we sure that those applied on animals respect these characteristics? Certainly, glazes intended for human use should not be used.

Already by itself, apply nail polishes on our nails containing dibutyl phthalate (DBP), toluene and formaldehyde it is dangerous in the presence of dogs who can inhale its toxic content. DBP has been banned in nail products across Europe, but sadly some polishes imported from abroad are not as safe.

Most of the nail polishes for dogs dry very quickly, just to avoid that the dog is forced to stay still for a long time, not to mention that some of them have very sensitive paws and feel a lot of discomfort when touched.

Is there another question to ask? Is it really necessary to subject cats and dogs to exhausting "paw pads" treatments?
