Altroconsumo has detected the prices of the most famous brands of doves found in supermarkets in Rome and Milan but also online, discovering how much they can vary according to type and point of sale

In view of Easter, the magazine Altroconsumo monitored the prices of doves and chocolate eggs from 45 brands, purchased in 25 points of sale in Rome and Milan and 6 online shops.

The variation in the prices of doves can be truly remarkable. Altroconsumo writes:

Some brands even cost five times more than others cheaper. And identical products can cost up to 80% more when bought in more expensive stores.

Among other things, in the case of colombe, the large price differences between the various brands are not so much justifiable because, as the consumer magazine points out, just as it happens for panettone, colombe are also subject to a minimum quality standard to be respected.

Yet, the difference between the dove that costs less and the one that costs more is truly disproportionate:

For a classic one-kilo dove you spend from a minimum of 2,74 euros (Maina) to a maximum of almost 17 euros (Tre Marie), with a difference of 520% The special versions cost more, that is, those with particular recipes or filled with creams: here the minimum price per kilo is close to 4 euros (Balocco without candied fruit) and the maximum one almost 24 euros (Tre Marie colomba "noir", which costs per piece almost 19 euros but has a reduced size of 800 grams), with a difference of 492%.

What are the cheapest doves?  Those of commercial brands, signed by large retailers. But by choosing well the point of sale in which to buy (for example by taking advantage of the offers) you can also pay well-known brands such as Maina and Motta at a good price.

As in the case of Easter eggs, even for doves the difference between the minimum and maximum price of the same product can be over 80%. A few examples? The Maina dove which costs from a minimum of 2,74 euros to a maximum of 4,95 euros (difference between minimum and maximum 81%) and the Motta one where the difference is even more marked (from 3,49 euros to 6,50 euro, 86%).

For doves with special recipes, we recommend Balocco's Cuore d'oro without candied fruit which costs from € 3,99 to € 6,55, with a difference of 64%.
