Il coffee is good for the heart: yet another study proving that coffee, taken with moderation, it's good! Some Korean researchers are convinced of this, according to which the arteries of those who drink coffee are healthier.

Basically, according to one study conducted at the Kangbuk Samsung Hospital in Seoul there is a clear correlation between moderate coffee consumption and a lower incidence of coronary artery atherosclerosis.

The experiment - More than 25 healthy people residing in South Korea were involved in the research, and their coffee consumption was monitored. In this way, the researchers detected the presence of calcium in the blood vessels, which indicates the existence of plaques in the arteries due to the storage of fats, and concluded that those who drink three to five cups of coffee a day is a little more protected from the risk of developing arterial occlusions than those who do not drink coffee or drink too much of it.

In people with atherosclerosis, the plaques can also form thrombi that obstruct the vessels and, among the possible consequences, there is myocardial infarction, if the coronary arteries are affected, and strokes, if the cerebral arteries are affected.

The merit of a cardiovascular protection would therefore be of caffeine? It is still not clear to researchers. What is certain is that further studies are needed to definitively dispel the myth of coffee that is dangerous for heart, coronary and arterial health.

Caffeine is a xanthine, a alkaloid found in many plants: from coffee beans to tea leaves, from cocoa beans to guarana berries and kola nuts, and added to soft drinks and various prescription and over-the-counter medications. Typically, the average caffeine content is around 85mg per 150ml (1 cup) in ground roasted coffee, 60mg in instant coffee, 3mg in decaffeinated coffee, 30mg in tea leaf or bag, 20 mg in instant tea and 4 mg in cocoa or hot chocolate. A glass (200 ml) of a soft drink that contains caffeine contains on average about 20-60 mg of caffeine.

In short, taking the right amount of coffee certainly does not hurt, nor does it endanger our health. Like all things, the important thing is not to abuse it!
