Some researchers have highlighted how coffee capsules could be harmful to our health

Le instant coffee capsules they are comfortable and quick to use, but nevertheless they are a lot harmful to the environment. That's not all, because they could also have potential consequences on our health.

A new study, in fact, he discovered one chemical that alters hormones and that it could be found in coffee capsules.

A team of researchers in nutrition andUniversity of Connecticut is currently investigating the health effects of consuming coffee in plastic capsules. In the journal Current Research in Toxicology, they recently observed that coffee brewed by capsule machines may contain so-called endocrine disruptors migrated from plastic.

These estrogenic chemicals can mimic estrogen, and are often found in plastic coffee pods, and could, like estrogen, potentially disrupt endocrinological (hormonal) regulation of the body.

According to these researchers this could be the result of the fermentation process that the plastic pod undergoes, when high temperatures and pressures are reached in the coffee machine. These factors could consequently lead to chemicals contaminating the coffee powder inside.

For now, it is not the time to resort to repairs as the research is still ongoing and there is no reliable data; What we are sure of, however, is that we are exposed daily to these chemicals that are now everywhere, from disposable cups and even in the paper on which shop receipts are printed.

Consequently, thinking about switching from plastic coffee pods to a possibly healthier option is a great idea; remember that if so, you may not have to completely throw out your coffee machine as many retailers have stainless steel reusable coffee pods, easy to wash and, above all, respectful of the environment and health.
