According to recent scientific research, drinking up to 4 cups of coffee has enormous benefits on liver health.

From espresso to instant, the coffee it is part of the daily routine of millions of people. According to a recent study drink 4 cups of coffee a day protects the liver from the risk of chronic hepatitis, and may even help prevent liver cancer and reduce the risk of alcohol-related diseases.

Researchers analyzed data from 494.585 project participants to help unravel the genetic and environmental factors associated with particular conditions. All participants were between the ages of 40 and 69 when they enrolled in the project, with 384.818 saying they were coffee drinkers, compared with 109.767 not consuming the drink.

The team looked into the liver health of participants over a period of nearly 11 years, finding 3.600 cases of chronic liver disease, with 301 deaths and 1.839 cases of simple liver disease. (Read also: Caffeine protects our skin from melanoma. The ISS study)

The analysis revealed that after taking into account factors such asbody mass index, alcohol consumption and smoke, those who drank a certain amount of coffee, of any kind, had a 20% lower risk of developing chronic liver disease. Coffee drinkers also had an approximately 49% lower risk of dying from chronic liver disease. (Laws: The taste of coffee may never be the same due to climate change)

The team of researchers said the magnitude of the effect increases with the amount of coffee consumed, up to about three or four cups a day; higher consumption did not provide any additional benefit.

A reduction in risk was also found when they were considered separately soluble, decaffeinated and ground coffee, although the latter would be more effective. (Read also: Wild coffee, rare and forgotten, which can save the beloved drink from the climate crisis)

However, the studio has gods limits, including the fact that it cannot prove that coffee alone reduces the risk of chronic liver disease, despite being effective in preventing serious illness.

Of course, it's important to point out that to improve liver health you don't need to just drink coffee, but follow one healthy lifestyle which also includes reducing alcohol consumption, following abalanced nutrition and exercise on a regular basis.
