Coca cola is the brand that produces the most plastic waste in the world, responsible for the largest number of plastic waste discharged into the environment

The famous soda company is indeed responsible for the largest amount of plastic waste products in the world.
To establish this, the movement organized a one-day cleaning in which 72 volunteers collected plastic bottles, bags, glasses along the beaches, roads and rivers of 50 countries on six continents.
During the big cleanup last September, the volunteers collected well 11 thousand Coca-cola-branded plastic items, which wins the first place in the ranking of companies responsible for plastic pollution.
In second and third place we find Nestlé and PepsiCo, followed by Mondelēz International - producer of well-known snacks including Oreo and Ritz - Unilever, Mars, P&G, Colgate-Palmolive, Phillip Morris and Perfetti Van Melle.
More than half of the plastic collected was consumed to the point that it was impossible to identify the producer.
“This report provides further evidence that companies urgently need to do more to address the plastic pollution crisis they have created. Their continued reliance on single-use plastic packaging results in producing too much plastic that ends up in the environment, ”said Von Hernandez, coordinator of Break Free From Plastic.
“Recycling will not solve the problem. The 1.800 participating organizations are asking companies to urgently reduce their production of single-use plastics and to find innovative solutions that do not create pollution “, concluded Hernandez.
Coca-cola claims to make investments to increase the recovery of its bottles and cans, as well as to find solutions to recycle the waste produced by preventing it from ending up in the environment or being incinerated, producing air, soil and water pollution.
Among the proposed solutions, Coca-Cola has introduced the use of plastic bottles made with plastic recovered from the seas and recycled, and is committed to collecting and recycling the equivalent of each bottle sold.
According to environmental organizations, replacing plastic with other materials or trying to recycle plastic more efficiently are however ineffective solutions to solve the emergency of plastic pollution and it would only be strategies aimed at protecting a obsolete business model, which over the years has done nothing but worsen the conditions of the planet.
