Beaches transformed into garbage dumps, water contaminated by spills, landfills that stretch as far as the eye can see, and vegetation destroyed by fires: there is this and more in the series The Profecy, created by photographer Fabrice Monteiro in collaboration with costume designer Doulsy and the EcoFund Organization, with the purpose of visually represent the pollution of some areas of Senegal.
The project includes images taken in different areas of the African country, all united by one characteristic: having been disfigured and made unrecognizable by pollution and by the hand of man. In these distorted places, once uncontaminated, some figures appear in plastic poses, whose costumes are made with garbage and debris found nearby, to compose a disturbing mix, which makes the photos of great impact.
Scrolling through the images, it is possible to come across a sprawling creature moving on a putrid beach, among debris, blood and animal remains, as well as a woman entirely dressed in plastic waste, a figure wrapped in stubble and surrounded by smoke. and in a tar-covered siren emerging from dark, contaminated waters. In short, scenarios and characters worthy of a post apocalyptic film that certainly do not leave you indifferent.
Looking at these shots, which seem to catapult us to another planet, monstrous and deformed, it is impossible not to perceive the violence with which pollution has affected the environment and, at the same time, do not feel the urgency of a change of course, which leads us to respect the world around us more, before it is too late.
