He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

In the area close to the Bullicante Lake Ex Snia of Rome, recently declared a Natural Monument, the bulldozers have arrived, putting a very rich and unique ecosystem at risk. In fact, since mid-March an operation has been underway for the felling of trees and bushes in the private area, a stone's throw from the small unspoiled oasis that stands at Pigneto-Prenestino, which for years the residents of the area have been trying to defend against reckless interventions and from the hands of businessmen.

But what has been happening in recent weeks has alerted citizens and activists who have organized a blitz to stop the bulldozers and have launched an appeal to the police to put an end to the destruction of the extraordinary vegetation in the area. Right now the city mobilization in the area is continuing.

“For weeks now we have been denouncing that the ecosystem that grew up close to the Natural Monument is suffering irreparable damage. The bulldozers of the builder Pulcini uprooted much of the vegetation present in the former industrial area and destroyed protected habitats, nesting place and refuge for various species of protected wildlife "- write the activists and citizens on the Facebook group dedicated to the Ex Snia - In these days we have documented the felling of dozens of trees, and the destruction of nests of various species, but no institutional body and the competent authorities have been able to stop the deforestation operations in an area of environmental value, despite the area is under landscape constraint, although it is within the reproduction period in which pruning and mowing are prohibited. Today we didn't want to wait any longer. The bulldozers must be stopped, we did it. "

A very rich ecosystem at risk

Lake Bullicante is considered an area of great naturalistic value that hosts dozens of plant species including the marsh reed (Phragmites australis), the white willow (Salix alba), the white poplar (Popolus alba), the black poplar (Popolus nigra). The natural monument of the Ex Snia also boasts a very rich fauna which includes buzzards, mallards, moorhens and even foxes. And for years the community of the Pigneto-Prenestino district has been fighting to protect that uncontaminated area.

"Our goal was to defend the biodiversity around Lake Bullicante with the same means that in thirty years of struggle have allowed this ecosystem to develop and be recognized as a Natural Monument, to be experienced and open to the whole city" - the citizens of the area write on Facebook - An environmental heritage under development that must be safeguarded, also as a concrete solution in this city to combat the climate change in progress, a necessary good for the health and well-being of the community. After the interposition action the engines stopped, the CCs, the Park rangers, the Commissariat and the Brigade Command intervened, each declaring that they were unable to intervene despite it clearly emerged that there is no authorization for the operations on the green. To unblock the deadlock, we obtained a commitment from the city planning councilor of the Municipality of Rome to present a complaint, in addition to the one presented by the Forum, with a request for seizure.

Let's save the ex Snia Lake from bulldozers!

On what is happening in the area close to Lake Bullicante, there was also an interventionto Lazio regional councilor, Marta Bonafoni, explaining that from a first check there would be no authorizations to proceed with the destruction of the vegetation in that area.

"While the builder who owns the area of the former factory does not care about the protection to which that place was subjected, proceeding with a" pruning "of trees clearly disfiguring the naturalistic balance also present close to the ruins, by the regional council In recent days, two other acts have arrived which have the aim of securing (from speculation) the lake it fights. - Bonafoni says through a post on Facebook - In the Territorial and Landscape Plan - the PTPR - as soon as it was approved we have in fact inserted the new Natural Monument Lago ex Snia, a fundamental fact that strengthens the protection provisions for this extraordinary miracle of biodiversity that resists in one of the densest urbanized fabrics in the capital. I wonder how, in an area that we have chosen to protect, a contemptuous owner can decide independently to cut down trees and part of the vegetation. "

Also the city planning councilor Luca Monturori took a stand against the arrival of bulldozers at Lake Ex Snia, announcing the mobilization by the institutions:

“With the Municipality, together with the State Superintendence and the local police, we took action and this morning a joint inspection took place to verify what is happening in an area, we recall, subject to constraint. This means that vegetation cutting interventions cannot be carried out without authorization and supervision from the Superintendency. Today the property, although convened, did not want to allow access to the area. But let's not give up, we will ask for permission in the appropriate places, signaling once again the risk that abuses are being committed and reiterating that all activities must be verified and controlled. "

Meanwhile, citizens and activists who for years have been engaged in a series of initiatives to protect Lake Bullicante have decided to organize a demonstration in defense of the ecosystem of that small oasis born among the palaces of Rome:

“This is the moment where ecological awareness becomes direct action. Once again the lake, with the species that populate it, needs a social force to defend it. This is why we appeal to the entire city to respond to environmental damage with a city mobilization, on May 1st from 15pm. We will meet at Lake Bullicante for an afternoon of struggle in defense of its ecosystem and against the bulldozers of those who are destroying it. for their own speculative interests. We must be many and many, knowing that we are entering a place where nature is taking back its space and there are many species in reproduction. Understanding and respecting it is part of the battle to defend it. "
