Touchscreen and children. What our lovely little ones have in common with tablet and smartphone which, it seems, we adults cannot do without? Absolutely nothing. On the contrary, the little ones can have a delay in learning.

According to new research conducted by doctors of the Cohen Children Medical Center, devices with touch screens if used at an early age they cause delays in language and poor knowledge of the language. All, including the so-called "educational games".

In short, according to experts (and according to the most responsible parents), to learn to speak, manipulate objects and relate to the surrounding world nothing exceeds exchange of words with mom and dad and traditional games.

OUR OFFICE - The analysis examined 65 couples, whose children had a "first contact" with a touchscreen on average at 11 months and for 17,5 minutes a day, but with peaks of 4 hours. The main activities for the children were “watching educational shows” (30%), using educational apps (26%), randomly pressing the screen (28%) and playing non-educational games (14%).

The study suggested that most parents believed that the games were educational and aided in their child's cognitive development, and even though 60% of parents said they were convinced that using the devices produced a "benefit in education" in the little ones, the cognitive tests then revealed that there was no difference between the "technological" and non-technological children. On the contrary, in children who used non-educational apps there was a delay in language development.

Ruth Milanaik, study coordinator, has explained: “We observed in our neonatal clinic that the number one toy parents are giving their babies are smartphones. It was surprising to see that parents are substituting them for books and toys “.
The old habits were therefore more stimulating and the doctor specifies: “Technology can never replace the interaction of a parent with their child. Talking to your child is the best way to encourage learning ”.

So, you parents who are surely conscientious and mature, you who grew up in the yard, on bread and jam, on glue and peeled knees, at least you do not delay in understanding that a tablet should not be placed in the small hands of your child. and remember the old days when a book, a board game, a puzzle, a chore done at the moment, but also a walk in nature was your daily game!
