Traces of phthalates in little girl panties, it happens on six of the 20 brands analyzed by Il Salvagente, which takes into consideration the ph of the tissues, the residues of glyphosate (and metabolites), phthalates, aromatic amines and allergenic and carcinogenic dyes.

What are our children wearing? This was asked by the journalist Enrico Cinotti who summarized the results of a test carried out on 20 panties for girls on the pages of the magazine.

"All comply with the legal limits, but in six cases we found traces of phthalates, plasticizing substances accused of modifying the hormonal system. An unwelcome presence that can be done without ”, we read.

This is not an outlaw presence, also because the limit set by European legislation is 1.000 mg/kg (o ppm), but the phthalates that are used in the prints of the panties, are still considered substances that are certainly not good for the little ones.

Here are the brands that contain phthalates

Of the brands analyzed, some were found to be completely free of phthalates, others have a maximum threshold of 38 mg / kg in the case of Prenatal (two phthalates) to a minimum of 8 mg / kg in H & M, passing through 9 ppm of Super Wings (SunCity), the 10 ppm of Blue Kids – Disney Princess, the 14 ppm measured on the product of the Disney Store and 21 of the panty Zootropolis (Caesar Packs, two phthalates).

Why are phthalates used in panties? To make plasticized products softer then in this case the prints such as teddy bears, princesses, stars and cartoon characters so loved by children.

"These compounds are suspected carcinogens and are toxic to the liver and kidneys, they interfere with the development of the reproductive organs of mammals as their structure can be confused at the cellular level with that of some estrogen hormones," writes Salvagente.

Children's underwear: do we really know what they wear?

Let's find out what phthalates are:

  • THE PHTHALATES PRESENT IN PERFUMES AND COSMETICS INCREASE THE RISK OF DIABETES
  • BPA: 10 WAYS TO LOWER WHOLE FAMILY EXPOSURE TO BISPHENOL A
  • PHTHALATES: EXPOSURE DURING PREGNANCY CAN CAUSE SERIOUS BABY PROBLEMS

Lifebuoy sent the test results at six companies interested, all have more or less the same answers confirming the presence of phthalates but reiterating that levels are below the set limit by European safety regulations confirms the conformity of the product.
