Experts all agree: children should stay as far away from smartphones and tablets as possible. But there are those who are even thinking about a law that prohibits children under 13 from purchasing and using them.
The proposal comes from a non-profit association of parents from Colorado who made this theme his personal battle so much that he chose the name of Parents Against Underage Smartphones (Parents against smartphones to minors).
The parental group stands collecting signatures so that in 2018 a law will be voted by which smartphone sellers would be forced to ask their buyers age (even if they were adults they should ascertain in which hands the device would really end up) preventing the purchase to (or for) minors under 13 years of age.
Children and smartphones: what risks?
In recent years, several studies around the world have wanted to analyze the relationship between children and smartphones by evaluating the effects that these devices, towards whom one is usually passive, they manage to have on cognitive development, character development, degree of attention, sleep, etc.
The results obtained speak for themselves: children do not benefit from these tools and should absolutely not abuse them. Excessive use of smartphones but also tablets and computers can, among other things, damage development some children, cause delays in learning, expose you to a greater risk of certain diseases, create addiction, increase aggression and disturb the night's rest.
In short, it would be better to limit to a minimum or avoid the use of these devices orienting children and young people towards other activities.

Undoubtedly the little ones should have other interests and stimuli than those that can give an animated screen. We are not convinced, however, that a ban like this can really be decisive for a question that is much more complex (we parents should break away first from smartphones, tablets and PCs to lead by example!).
