Cats become attached to humans the same way children do, a study reveals

Cats are as fond of humans as infants do, a study that subjected them to a test already used for children revealed.

For a long time cats have been attributed unflattering characteristics, which described them as cold animals, manipulative, opportunistic and not inclined to become attached to humans, if not for convenience.

Myths that practically no one believes anymore today and that are now definitively discredited even by science. Thanks to a study by the State University of Oregon, published in the journal Current Biology, according to which i cats domestic they stick together to their human keepers in the same way as children.

During the research, the cats were subjected to a test that involved placing them in a new room for two minutes with their assistant, then leaving them alone for another 2 minutes. When the owners returned, the cats reacted in different ways, demonstrating various attachment styles.

This test, already practiced with children, primates and dogs, has shown that cats bond to humans in a very similar way to infants and like the latter, 65% have proven to be firmly linked to their keepers because, upon reviewing them, enter the room, he has resumed exploring it calmly, rather than attaching himself to the owner or completely avoiding him.

Furthermore, the test allowed us to understand that Human attachments of cats are stable, they last well into adulthood, and are a source for them of great security, as Kristyn Vitale, who coordinated the research, pointed out:

"Our study indicates that when cats live in a state of dependence with a human being, their attachment behavior is flexible and most of them use humans as a source of comfort and safety in a new environment."

In short, cats have huge hearts and they sincerely love us, we already knew it and science now confirms it!
