Casa Corepla: how to educate children about plastic recycling

The Casa Corepla educational facility was inaugurated in Rubano (Pd).

Environmental education: until 6 November the "Le Brentelle" Shopping Center in Sarmeola di Rubano, in the province of Padua, will host "Corepla house”, The itinerant structure open to primary schools in the area and to all citizens promoted by Corepla, the National Consortium for the collection, recycling and recovery of plastic packaging.

The purpose? Educate to plastic recycling and offer an educational path that goes from prevention to separate collection, from sorting to recycling, ending with the production of objects with recycled plastic.

The "House" is none other than the reproduction of the interior of an apartment: it is in our homes, in fact, that we “train” our children (and ourselves!) in responsible consumption and it is here that we begin to separate the various packaging and then give it to the separate collection service. In each of these environments, young and old are involved in various recreational and educational activities, including an "augmented reality" experience, which can then also be replicated at home or at school.

“Promoting the separate collection and recycling of plastic packaging to the widest possible audience is a way to face the future. Because the rebirth of materials is the cornerstone of a circular economy that removes recyclable materials from landfills to transform them into quality "secondary raw materials", fueling a new competitive and sustainable industry, attentive to the territory and the environment, explains the President of Corepla Antonello Ciotti. “Casa Corepla is an in-depth tool aimed above all at the younger generations who are our future”.

A job that here in the province of Padua already finds fertile ground, since the Veneto region has been recording the best harvesting performance for years with 23 kg per capita / year against a national average of 15 kg. "And for 2016 - underlines Ciotti - a further 10% increase in collection is expected".

"The challenge is won if we work on culture and environmental education, starting from schools and families to build a new citizenship that is active and participates in environmental processes," says Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Environment Barbara Degani.

A challenge, it is true, but at the same time the most natural thing in this world: to teach children to respect the environment in which they live.
