Cannabis: green light for therapeutic purposes in Tuscany

In Tuscany, cannabinoids could be used in palliative care and against pain. The green light from the Health Commission of the Tuscany Regional Council

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Cannabis a therapeutic purpose. The Health Commission of the Regional Council of Tuscany has given the green light to a regional law proposal concerning the therapeutic use of cannabinodi, for pain relief and palliative care.

Enzo Brogi (Pd) and Monica Sgherri (parent company Fds-Verdi), together with Pieraldo Ciucchi are the first signatories of the provision that actually unifies two different bills. The target? To guarantee Tuscan residents access to cannabinoid drugs on prescription to combat pain, in cure palliative and also in other types of therapies.

The proposal, advanced after having heard different opinions both in the medical sector and among patients, had the approval of the majority by the Health Commission of Tuscany, chaired by Marco Remaschi (Pd), with the opposition of the PDL and Udc. But the last word has not yet been said. In fact, the deed will have to pass the examination of a new session in the classroom, next May 2nd, to obtain final approval.

According to Remaschi, the proposal is “an important signal of aperture and civilization ". Stefano Mugnai (Pdl), who spoke of it in terms of the "flag law" added that it would be useful to ask the Ministry of Health to assess whether or not these drugs should be included in the pharmaceutical table. Not everyone agrees. For Marco Carraresi it is a “manifest law with practical results equal to zero and where the scientific aspect is almost ignored”.

For some time now there has been talk of the possibility of introducing i cannabinodi as an alternative to other types of drugs, including opiates and barbiturates. According to various studies, in fact, the latter would have much heavier side effects than the former.

The fact remains that the use of these substances will not only have to take place under strict medical supervision but will have to be further regulated by the technicians of the Regional Council to identify the cases for which hiring will be authorized.

In any case, you will have to wait until 2st May when the Regional Council will have to decide on the matter.
