Vergnano coffee is ready to present its first line of compostable capsules. The new capsules will be compatible with Nespresso branded domestic coffee machines. The Turin-based company will put them on the market starting next month.

Remember the dispute between Caffè Vergnano and Nestlé about compatible coffee capsules for Nespresso machines? The Court of Turin in 2012 had established that the “Èspresso” capsules proposed by Caffè Vergnano did not constitute an infringement of the patents and trademarks of the Nestlé group. On the strength of the ruling, Caffè Vergnano has now decided to commit to presenting a new line of environmentally friendly and non-branded capsules, “Declaring war again” on Nespresso, but also on Lavazza, which recently announced the launch of its compostable capsules in partnership with Novamont precisely in view of the Expo.

The new capsules will be compostable and compatible with Nespresso branded domestic machines and Èspresso1882 TRÈ machines. THREE. They will be the first capsules on the market certificate OK COMPOST da Vinçotte (internationally recognized body).

The biggest advantage? Caffè Vergnano capsules will be disposable in the waste bin without having to separate the wrapper from the coffee. The company knows that the environmental impact deriving from the use of capsules can be greater than the consumption of coffee in mocha or pods. He therefore decided that the new compostable capsules will progressively replace the non-compostable products currently on sale, with reference to the Èspresso1882 packs.

even the the packaging it has been renovated from an ecological point of view. In fact, each component can be disposed of in separate collection: the box in the paper, the wrapping in the plastic and the capsule in the organic.

Caffè Vergnano is not the only company to offer new products regarding coffee capsules. L'L'Angelica Herbal Institute has indeed announced the launch of a new product. These are coffee capsules that do not contain plastics or derivatives, but only and exclusively cellulose pulp, for one 100% biodegradable and cold compostable product.

Unlike plastic or bio-plastic capsules, the capsules of the L'Angelica Herbal Institute, whose technology is patented, they can be disposed of in the wet, in the home compost, in the wood stove or can even be used as a fertilizer for plants. The 100% biodegradable capsule was created with cellulose pulp without the addition of additives, a material suitable for contact with food even at high temperatures.

The two novelties are added to the sustainable capsules proposals from Altromercato and at biodegradable coffee capsules in Mater-Be the Novamont. What will be the friendliest alternative to the environment?
