As we said, the dogs will now be moved to several partner shelters in Canada and the United States, with the aim of finding them new foster homes. Before this happens, however, they will be taken to a temporary reception facility in South Korea, waiting for travel restrictions due to Covid-19 to relax. Once safely out of the kennel, the dogs will immediately receive a full veterinary check-up and rehabilitation work will begin.

    Dog meat consumption is steadily declining in South Korea and is already banned or severely restricted in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines. In 2018, the Indonesian and Vietnamese capitals ended the dog meat trade. More recently, in April 2020, the Chinese cities of Shenzhen and Zhuhai banned the consumption of dog and cat meat, following the Chinese government's declaration regarding the status of dogs and cats as pets.
