Prevention is better than cure, you know. And if menopause approaches, it is better to start introducing carrots and rich vegetables into our diet carotenoids if we want to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. This is what researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston say in a study coordinated by Dr. Laura I. Mignone and published in the journal International Journal of Cancer.

By comparing the diet of 5707 women with breast cancer with that of 6389 healthy peers, it was found that by taking daily Vitamin A, β-carotene, α-carotene and lutein, substances already considered precious not only for the tan, but also for lung cancer, yes significantly lowers the likelihood of breast cancer.

In particular, eating at least two servings of carotenoid-rich vegetables would reduce the risk by 17%. But only if the consumption takes place in the premenopausal period . The reason for their limited action is still not clear, the fact is that their ability to interfere with estrogenic signals as well as their strong antioxidant effect.

Carotenoids, of which carotene is only one and perhaps the best known of these pigments, are the substances on which the typical red-orange color of autumn leaves also depends.
